Apparently this would be the first time that a Tamil film will be screened in an international festival. Shankar's Veyyil, was screened on 19th May under "cinemas of the world" category and Maniratnam's national hit Guru on 20th in the prestigious Cannes film festival.
Maniratnam, Shankar and Vasantha Balan, the director of Veyyil flew to Frances to screen the movie alongside other world class films. It is really a proud moment for Tamil cinema. Applause.
The other six Indian movies chosen for Cannes film festival are Saira in Malayalam, Missed Call in Hindi, Bengali film Dosar, Dharm and Lage Raho Munnabhai in Hindi.
