Spidermania was in full swing on Thursday night for the Chennai premiere of the much anticipated "Spiderman 3". Hundreds of diehard Spidey fans gathered in Chennai's Sathyam Cinemas to watch the premiere, along with a host of stars from the local movie industry.
The stars who stayed up late to watch the movie included Padmashree Kamal Haasan along with Gowthami, Trisha who seems to have taken a break from her hectic shooting schedules, Prakash Raj (Galatta Cinema's Star of the Month) and his family, Sundar C. and Khushbu with their daughter, Simbu sporting a new look, Karthi as demure as always, the entire SS Music crew including VJ Carey, Paloma and Lekha (who was recently featured in Galatta's own movie magazine), cinematographer-director Jeeva, Galatta Cinema's new Rising Star G.V. Prakash, Srikanth and many more. Among the non-film personalities, Ms. Letika Saran IPS, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai, was also present.
The host of the evening, Vikramjit Roy from Sony Pictures ensured that everyone was comfortable with snacks and mocktails flowing for all guests.
The entire Sathyam Cinemas complex was wrapped in a web (even the walls and alcoves had huge spider webs built in to give a true feel of Spiderman).
In the third Spiderman instalment, Peter Parker, the humble persona of Spiderman, discovers a mysterious black suit that enhances his power, but unleashes his dark side, stirring up hidden feelings of bitterness and revenge.
The film cost almost $300 million to make, and is rumoured to be the most expensive film ever made.
The first two films of the series, directed by Sam Raimi, took a joint total of $1.6 billion at the box office.
With such previous success and a slew of fans that would ensure more to come, speculation about a fourth film has already begun which is slated to be released in 2011.
The film is released in Japan, China and selected European countries on 1st May and opens in India, UK and US on 4th May. The Tamil version of the movie also will release today in Tamilnadu.
