In the last four months, over 30,000 talented singers auditioned in Coimbatore, Trichy and Chennai for the Airtel Super Singer Junior contest. These singers performed, were screened. Many were winnowed out, the rest shortlisted. Finally, the viewers' votes chose the best among them. Vignesh and Krishnamoorthy truly outdid each other in their fianl confrontation for the coveted title of Airtel Super Singer Jr. Viewers voted by SMS and online for 48 hours and they voted for Krishnamoorthy, aged 14, studying in Class 10.
Legendary Carnatic singer, Padmabhushan Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. Balamuralikrishna gave away the award plus prize money of fupees five lakhs. Judges Usha Uthup and Chitra also participated. The grande finale was attended by popular stars of the music fraternity including Mahathi, Vijay Jesudas and Srilekha Parthasarathy. Special awards were also given to the outstanding performers amongst the juniors.
