The 29th Annual Advertising Club Madras, Awards Function "Spark 2006" was held on 09 March 2006 at the Kamaraj Arangam, Chennai. Vijay TV won the Silver in the Television commercial Promo spots - Channel category for the "Star Wars II" Promo (animated promo). Of the four nominations in this category, two were Vijay TV promos, 'The Master' (promo for the film titled 'The Master') being the other one.
This is the third successive year that Vijay TV has won an award in this category. In 2004 Vijay TV won a Gold and Silver and in 2005, a bronze. The channel has also won a Gold and Silver in 2005 at the 2nd Promax India Awards at Mumbai.
Vijay TV, with its strategic and structured approach to on-air promos, comprises a team of creative talent who has a great understanding of the Tamil idiom. Mr. Ramesh Mydur, a seasoned professional in the ad-film making industry nationally, leads the team. Vijay is continuing to pioneer the on-air promo effort in this market and has raised the bar on the quality of promos aimed at consumers. This award once again recognizes Vijay's “vijay” (victory) and dominance in this sphere.
The concept of the promo:
The promo is for the movie Star Wars-Episode 2 in Tamil. It shows three strange-looking alien characters from the film having an innocuous conversation (in colloquial Tamil) and the humors that result from a misunderstanding. One of the three, a female, starts off by saying 'Hi' to someone and proceeds to enquire if that person is free on Friday at 8.30 p.m. The other alien, a male, is very thrilled, assuming that she is speaking to him and continues the conversation. The third character suddenly butts in, asking him to control himself, clarifying that the female is addressing Vijay TV viewers and not him. The promo ends with the announcement of the date & time of the movie.
