Review
Director Selvaa and Arjun are pairing up for the third time after Karna and Manikanda.
Aanai is a fast, action-paced thriller which gives a chance to Arjun to display his angry man image with fights, thrills, and action. It has been shot extensively in London, and the scenery and locations are truly breathtaking.
Vijay (Arjun) is a sincere police officer who always keeps his promises, no matter what the cost. He is forced into compulsory retirement since he is too idealistic. Jayaram (Manoj K. Jayan) is a famous and rich singer; his wife is Meena (Sandhavi); they have a daughter Priya (Baby Taj) who is the apple of their eyes. They employ Vijay as a full time bodyguard to protect her from possible kidnapping. There is a gang of professional kidnappers who are out to kidnap rich children for huge ransoms; if the ransom is not paid in time, the children are brutally murdered.
Unfortunately, the child gets kidnapped, and Vijay is critically injured trying to protect her. He is hospitalized, and the kidnappers, who are in collusion with the local police, try to kill him in hospital, but he is saved by a nurse (Keerthi Chawla). The action continues, the suspense builds up, and an injured Vijay takes it as a personal challenge to rescue the little girl.
It is an action entertainer. Arjun plays his usual action-hero image; Namitha, as the personal secretary to Jayaram, plays her role to perfection. She shines as Vijay’s love-interest, in the songs, and as the efficient secretary; Imman has supported the movie with peppy songs; rerecording is arresting, and the background music helps maintain the suspense and tempo; Manoj K Jayan, from Malayalam movies is the successful singer and worried father.
A good action movie, more so for Arjun fans.
