Jeyam Ravi, who played soft romantic roles so far, has changed his track in Dass directed by debutant Babu Yogeshwaran. In Dass, he plays an action hero, an angry young man. Dass is an action-packed film with the right mix of romance, humour and sentiments to make it a good entertainer.
Antony Dass (Ravi), a Christian boy coming from a middle class family, studies in a local college at Tirunelveli. He is also the captain of the college football team. Antony Dass, along with his friends, develop bad relations with the local leader Annachi (Shanmuga Rajan) during a chariot festival. Rajeswari (Renuka Menon), daughter of Annachi, develops a soft corner for Antony Dass and she falls in love with him. On knowing this, Annachi dismisses Antony from the college. Meanwhile, Rajeswari's cousin (Monica) falls in love with Guna (Abhinay), a lower caste boy and friend of Antony Dass, and elopes with him. When Annachi comes to know about this, he sends his men to 'eliminate' the couple and set them on fire in front of Antony Dass.
On coming to know this, Rajeswari is devastated. In order to teach her a father a lesson, she runs away with Dass and vows to get married to him. They go to Madurai and stay with Nasir (Krishna); he promises to get them married. Coming to know about the elopement of his daughter, Annachi tries to locate the couple with the help of a minister (Mahadevan) and police officer (FEFSI Vijayan). The uniting of the couples and how they teach a lesson to Annachi forms the rest of the story.
Jeyam Ravi as Antony Dass has done a laudable job. He blows you over with his passionate performance as an action hero. His body language, dialogue delivery and face expressions are all very impressive. Renuka Menon has done a good job in this film. Krishna, who played a comedy role in Arindhum Ariyamalum has shifted to a serious role in this film and has done full justice to his role. Yuvan Shankar Raja's music is melodious. Vadivelu's comedy doesn't evoke any laughter.
Shanmuga Rajan who played Pei Kaaman in Virumaandi has done a commendable job as a baddie in this film. Another plus point of the film is the stunts by Rocky Rajesh. Though the film reminds one of Kaadhal, it is the fast screenplay and the treatment given by director Babu Yogeshwaran which makes the film entertaining.
