K.S. Adhiyaman is back to Tamil industry with Priyasakhi. Madhavan and Sada are teamed up in this film after Aeithree. The film, presented in style, has the right mix of emotions, sentiments and romance making it a good entertainer. In short, Priyasakhi speaks about love and family relationships. The plot and the presentation are very good, and each member of the audience will definitely identify with some person(s) and some situations, since the situations and portrayals are very life-like.
Santhana Krishnan (Madhavan) aka Sakhi works as a manager in an automobile company and lives in a joint family with his mother, grandmother, sister, brother and his family. As he is working in a car company, he goes on a tour to Dubai. There, he comes into contact with Priya (Sada), a model. It is "love at first sight" for Sakhi and he proposes to Priya. Priya accepts his love and they get married.
Priya's family is just the reverse of Sakhi's family. Her father (Prathap Pothan) is hen-pecked; her mother (Aishwarya), acts impossibly young, does not behave in a manner befitting her age, but behaves like a spoilt rich young woman, flirting and going to discotheques. Priya, coming from this type of "Hi-fi" family, finds it difficult to understand, adjust, empathise and fine-tune with Sakhi's family; their culture and traditions look alien to her. These pave the way for misunderstandings and the couple decides to separate. But Sada is already pregnant, and her mother plans to have Priya undergo an abortion. The rest of the movie is how Sakhi and Priya rejoin to give us all - a happy ending.
The major plus points of the film are Madhavan, Sada, cinematography and songs. Madhavan blows you over with his intense performance, both as a bachelor and later, as a family man; especially in the scene where he sees his wife having alcoholic drinks with her family. His expressions, body language and dialogue delivery are all very impressive. Sada steals the thunder in the climax with her intense receptive portrayal. Ramesh Kanna in cameo role is entertaining. Prathap Pothan and Aishwarya as Priya's parents are effective and adequate; they appear naturally tailor-made for the roles.
Sethu Sriram's cinematography is a major asset to the taut screenplay. Bharadhwaj's music is melodious. K.S. Adhiyaman has given a family love story with a gripping screenplay without any action sequences. On the whole, the film is entertaining and worth watching.
