Meipporul is story with a fresh viewpoint. Dealing with the lives of a group of friends and their tempestuous relationships, it is entirely shot in San Francisco Bay area in the U.S.
Sam (Krish Bala), a neurosurgeon, is happily married; he leads a quiet and satisfactory life along with his wife Devi (Anusha), a reporter in a Tamil magazine run by and for Indians living in San Francisco. Both Sam and Devi have understood and accepted the demands and limitations of their work lives. Their mutual understanding is the backbone of their long-standing loving relationship.
Just when life seems to be sweet and serene, Sam's friend and golf-partner Vishwa (Narayan) visits him with his girlfriend Lakshmi (Rani). Vishwa is crazily ambitious and has a restless work spirit. Also, his quirky nature and quest for continuous novelty and challenge do not let him stay in one particular job. He keeps hopping from one company to another, growing tired and bored with anything pretty easily. Apparently, Lakshmi already knows Devi and this connection brings them all one step closer.
Rajan (Suren Vijayakumar) is an astrophysicist working in NASA. His unearthly working hours and brain-racking research schedules often stresses him out completely. A quiet hour at the bar is a way he chooses to refresh himself. Quiet, poised and intense, Rajan is also blessed with a strange power with which he can clearly predict others' future; most of his predictions have come true, giving the predictions greater credibility. Rajan and Sam meet and become friends.
Dharan (Natty Kumar) is a popular hero in Tamil films. He is on a secret tour to the U.S. to undergo a surgery. A popular hero in Kollywood, he stays away from the media gossip-mongers and news-hungry public since any leak regarding his makeover will alter his well-established image in the industry. Dharan consults Sam. During his frequent visits to Sam's facility, Dharan makes a good impression on Devi and they become friendly.
With different pretexts, all of them walk into Sam's life. Each person has a distinct social identity and hence differs from the others in the group. However, even their petty clashes and differences in views upset Sam's peaceful routine. Seeing Sam in a withdrawn state disappoints Devi too. Eventually, frustrated by her husband's mood swings and temper tantrums, Devi begins to avoid Sam and finds solace and joy in Dharan's friendship. All these further complicate Sam's life. He does not know whom to trust and where to go for support. The rest of the film deals with Sam's experiences and the facts he discovers in his poignant journey.
Christopher Eldridge, who has worked as director of photography for documentaries and short films, handles the camera for Meipporul. John Mazzei, a professional composer who has worked on many theatre productions, films and television programmes, has composed the music for the movie. Editing is by Lenin.
The film is to be released in the U.S. in October. It will then be released in India simultaneously in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil. Krish Bala, Natty Kumar and Narayan have directed this unique venture.
