Last year, Music Director Vidhya Sagar received the National Award for the Telugu film Swarabhishekam which was produced by Sri Raja Rajeshwari Combines. The same Raja Rajeshwari Combines is now producing a Tamil movie Illavattam. 

Illavattam is the pulse of youth. It is a path every man crosses in his cycle of life. And it is undeniably the most enjoyable phase of our lives.

This movie describes how a young boy stepping into adolescence faces the physical and mental changes in him. Adolescence is the period when one cannot control one’s own thoughts and cannot decide what is right and what is wrong. 

The story tells us about a student in the adolescent age who is infatuated with a girl of his own age. All he wants is to have her. The sufferings and sorrows he faces due to his unfulfilled passion, how he overcomes all that and finally how he succeeds is the story of Illavattam. This movie is about all the youth who are irresponsible, living life in a care free manner with no regard for their parents and their future. 

In this film Arithum Ariyaamalum hero Navdeep is acting as a school student called Jairam, and is playing the lead role. Sheela, who has acted as a child artist in many Tamil films is again donning the role of a school student in this movie. Bablu is the villain in this movie. After Aval Varuvala Bablu has done a good job in this movie. 

Yet another important character in the movie is the Collector who proves to be a turning point in the movie. Mrs.Suhasini Maniratnam has done a remarkable job as the Collector. Others in the cast are Vijaya Kumar and Manorama. Mano Bala, M.S.Bashkar, Bhuvaneshwari are all playing the part of teachers and have also performed well in comedy. Kadhal Sukumar has also performed well in his character as friend and also as comedian. After Kadhal this movie is going to be a turning point for Sukumar.

Mani Sharma (who is one of the leading music directors of Andhra film industry) has composed music for Tamil movies before. Yet he has taken some pains for the songs of this movie to be hits. There are five songs in this movie. Each song is totally different from the other. “Yaar kadavulai parthadu” song would surely get a place for Mani Sharma in Tamil industry. “Om muruga vaa muruga” and “kadhare kadhare” songs are sure to be among the super hit punch songs of this year.

Cinematography is by Selva.R. He has worked for hit films like Once more, Thullatha Manamum Thullum and Priyamanavale. He was really impressed by this story and has given the best for the movie. Snegan (who was popular through the song “Kalyananthan katikittu odipolama”) has written all the songs for this movie. Stunts are by ‘Kanal’ kannan. The cycle chase and climax fight which was shot in Nagercoil makes the viewer’s hair stand on end!
