After much speculation regarding the release date, Jaganmohini (also spelt Jagan Mohini) is all set to hit screens on Diwali (October 17). Diehard fans of Namitha will surely be thrilled. Impressed by the script and the performance of Jayamalini in the original, Namitha reportedly shed a lot of weight to give perfection to her character.
Namitha is particularly pleased with the underwater sequences shot in the Indian Ocean. Known for her honest statements, Namitha said she was truly impressed by the producer and director's total involvement with the project. "When I heard the script, the role looked tailor-made for me. But the grandeur part was beyond my comprehension with N.K. Viswanathan lending a riot of colour, aided by the graphics effects."
In Namitha's view, the glamour quotient had to be a little high to meet the audience expectations and filling in the shoes of Jayamalini. "The script is such that the audience will just fall in love from the opening frame itself. It was nice working with co-stars Raja and Nila who were willing to underplay their characters in tune with the script."
Director N.K. Viswanathan said he is aware of the expectation which has hit a feverish pitch with the D-day of the release nearing. Targeting at the mass audience, Vishwanathan said he has maximized the graphics effects making best use of the available technology.
"A remake is always a dicey proposition and more so when it is remade after 25 years. You just cannot afford the trial and error ways in a movie of this magnitude where the producer has pumped in so much," he opines.
Music by Ilayaraja and the impact of the songs are seen as a major plus of the movie. We know that the maestro even made a trip to Hungary to get the special effects for the background score, showing the importance he gave for this movie.
Watch out for Jaganmohini Namitha! The countdown has already begun.
