Madharasapattinam (also spelt as Madrasapattinam, Madhrasapattinam), is the revolutionary love story of a Madrasi boy and a British girl set in the pre-Independence era. Vijay, who directed Kireedam (Ajith) and Poi Solla Porom has wielded the megaphone for this beautiful love story. Nirav Shah is the cinematographer for this film produced by Kalpathi Agoram.
"The film is set in the Madras of the 40s and takes place in Washermanpet. It's a story of a dhobi, who also happens to be a wrestling champ. It has brilliantly portrayed how Chennai was when it was Madharasapattinam. I loved the way Vijay narrated the story. Clich閐 as as it may sound, no one has ever attempted a movie like this. It's been a long time since an authentic period film was made. Vijay has also roped in foreign actors to give the British feel, including Amy Jackson, a Miss World Teen, to play my love interest," actor Arya said in a recent interview.
Looks like the poster boy of Kollywood has also worked hard on his physique for the role. "I wanted to look convincing as a wrestler. I tried my best to imitate how a wrestler would fight, walk, or for that matter, behave in public. I observed matches to get their body language right," he added.
"My character is Amy Wilkinson, the 18-year-old daughter of the governor of Madharasapattinam. A problem arises when I fall in love with an Indian boy as it was forbidden back then. My character is that of a kind, genuine person who loves Indians unlike her father and stepmother," Miss World Teen Amy Jackson said.
Music is composed by G.V. Prakrash. Madharasapattinam boasts of six songs penned by Na. Muthukumar. Roop Kumar Rathod, Harini, Andrea Jeremiah, G.V. Prakash, Udit Narayan, V.M.C. Haneefa, Amy Jackson, Seenu, Naveen Iyer, Sonu Nigam, Saindhavi, Hariharan, Zia and the Augustin Choir have rendered the songs.
Vikram has also rendered a song in Madharasapattinam . Even more, in the song 'Meghame Oh Meghame' with an old Madras feel, the actor has sung in five different voices, including that of a dhobi, a teacher and an old man.
The film is expected to be a summer treat!
