After the offbeat Katradhu Tamil, it is ELK productions Thenavettu from Jiiva. "The word 'Thenavettu' does not mean arrogance and unruly qualities. It refers to a caring individual who does not alter his principles for anyone or anything; he has clarity and authority and knows best," says V.V. Kadhir, director of Thenavettu about his film's hero Kottaisamy (Jiiva). "He is an explosive package of strength, valour, love and compassion."adds Kadhir.
The metropolis Chennai always draws people who want to achieve something in life. Full of misleading adventures, the inhabitants' approach and attitude influence the innocent and vulnerable youth who come from villages in search of occupation and livelihood. But Kottaisamy, who comes to the city in search of a suitable job, is not one to succumb to the 'Metro Magic'. He is untouched by its glamour and pretentiousness. He applauds the good but never hesitates to stand up against what he feels is wrong. When rules and peaceful procedures fail, he bravely resorts to his personal methods.
Soon, brave Kottaisamy goes through a bad experience in the city. While travelling in Chennai, he witnesses a grisly murder. He comes to know that notorious city don Kailasam is behind it. Unwilling to face the enemy without knowing his background, strengths and weaknesses, but not being able to get on with his life with the niggling memory within him, he goes back to his village. However, Kailasam wants to delete this eyewitness and sends his henchmen after Kottaisamy. True to action movie grammar, the goondas are beaten black and blue by Kottaisamy and chased out of the village.
