Arasangam is Vijaykanth's 150th film. Fondly known as 'Captain' in the film circuit, Vijaykanth is cut out for majestic roles as police officer in different cadres. As always, in Arasangam too, he appears as the dedicated officer who appeals for justice. The role fits him well in terms of looks as well as attitude and that happens to be the primary attraction in the film.

A series of murders begin to shake the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. Intelligent individuals such as research scientists, engineers and officials who occupy the top positions are brutally killed. The terrorist gang involved in the killings deploys middle-class individuals who crave extra money as instruments to perform these murders. With thoughtful planning and careful execution, the gang leaves no tangible evidence at the venue to track them. The problem blows up to a serious extent and with a view to put a stop to the threatening issue, officer Manoj (P.G. Menon) is appointed to investigate the cases and to find the killers. Manoj boards the flight from the capital city to Chennai. But, mysteriously and to the entire department's surprise, the officer never lands in Chennai.

When the law and order in the state suffers further, the department deputes Arivarasu for the risky job. Arivarasu (Vijaykanth) is relieved from his post as the head of the Police Training Centre. Arivarasu is known for the discipline he strives to enforce in his wing and the sincerity he shows towards his job. Owing to his qualities and capabilities, the department deems him the most appropriate person to resolve the serious issue.  Soon, following a rigorous investigation, the competent and devoted officer tracks down the chief operating authority involved in the serial killing. Arivarasu arranges a powerful battalion to apprehend the criminal Chandru (Rahul Dev). But unfortunately, in the police encounter, Chandru gets gravely wounded and slips into a deep coma. With a master plan, the department transports him to Canada. Being part of the plan and to trap the entire gang, Arivarasu too flies to Canada. What happens there? How does Arivarasu capture the menacing gang? How does he defuse their treacherous plans revolving around the security issues of the country? What was the motive behind Manoj's murder? Director Madesh has chosen a very fitting script for Vijaykant. The story has its usual flavour and the action blocks are amazing. He has also matched Vijaykant's characterization with his political image and magnetic charm.

Vijaykanth as the tough officer has perfectly satisfied his fans. Being sincere in discharging his duty and diligent in his job as the meticulous trainer who instills discipline amongst the cadets, he has breathed life and energy into the character. Navneet Kaur and Sheryll Printo as the glamorous heroines have done their jobs well. P.G. Menon's dual role comes as a shocking surprise in the story. A. Venkatesh's camera has travelled with the story. While capturing Canada's exquisite beauty and also in the racy chase sequences, the audience absorbs the thrill and adventure through the camera's amazing angles. Srikanth Deva's music has added appeal and grace to Arasangam. Rocky Rajesh's stunts are realistic and stunning.

Arasangam offers a full-fledged treat to Vijaykanth's fans; their dear 'Captain' has certainly excelled in keeping his fans enthralled and entertained.
