Thrillers based on quick-fix action and adventure dominate the cinema scene today. Netru Indru Naalai also belongs to the same genre, portraying the miraculous changes that influence a young man's life and eventually alter the course of his life.
Vetri (Ravikrishna) is a young jobless youth who has given up hopes of finding success in life. Jobless and aimless, Vetri's confidence level has dropped tremendously. Overwhelmed by his failure and on the verge of depression, Vetri thinks he has arrived at the dead end of his life. Feeling too depressed to analyse his situation or look for new opportunities, he decides to commit suicide. He walks to the nearest railway station and decides to jump in front of the moving train.
While he is just about to launch his fatal fall, he spots a corpse lying by the side of the track. A flashing cell phone by the corpse's side too attracts his attention. Distracted by the whole sight and curious to explore it further, Vetri postpones his suicide; at that very moment, the cell phone starts ringing and Vetri instinctively answers it. To the dejected young man's advantage, the caller assumes him to be Kishore, the owner of the cell phone. Though unable to appreciate the context of the caller's message, Vetri assesses the situation and instantly takes a smart decision. Assuming this weird happening as a golden opportunity to restart his life, Vetri becomes Kishore from that moment on.
The changeover brings him many advantages. Vetri becomes the proud owner of abundant riches, a social status and standing as well the identity of a person high up in the social ladder. Secured and comfortable with everything, Vetri buries his tragic past and starts a new life as the mysterious Kishore, a person he had never met in his life. Later, Kishore's ladylove Swapna (Akshara) too joins him in his web of deceit.
When everything progresses at a smooth pace, Kishore's enemy Poorana (Ajay) interferes and spoils Vetri's comfort. Presuming that Kishore has cheated him of his share in a financial deal between the two, Poorana starts chasing Kishore aka Vetri to recover his money. This unforeseen and terrible situation forces poor Vetri to give up his newfound identity and also makes him run to save his life. Again, his entire life goes through a significant change; the erstwhile peace and calm he had enjoyed as the simpleton Vetri with the concomitant enjoyments he had never appreciated earlier are at stake. Now will this dreadful situation make him revert to becoming Vetri? Will his original love Poorana forgive him when she knows about his changed identity? What happens to Swapna? If exposed, will Vetri's life be back to square one, i.e. will he successfully commit suicide at least now? Don't miss the action in Netru Indru Naalai to know!
The film is based on a wafer-thin theme and some of its sequences defy logic. However, throughout the entire course of Netru Indru Naalai, one is more engrossed in following Vetri's stumbling from one cirisis to the next, wondering what will happen next, rather than scrutinizing the missing logic. Director Lakshmikanth's astute script and screenplay are indeed the reason for this effect. Hero Ravikrishna is entitled to the credit of communicating the film's essence aptly. It is indeed a comeback for the talented performer. Tammannah of Kalloori fame appears in a cameo.
Heroine Akshara too has done the job well; Ravikrishna-Akshara's romance is indeed sizzling! Ajay's villainous portrayal is understated to an extent. Nevertheless, it should make a profound impression on audiences. Karunaas' comedy is enjoyable. Lokesh's editing and Ganesh's choreography are other commendable aspects in the movie.
Though logic is missing in places, Netru Indru Naalai is a modern movie with a crisp and clear theme.
