A Vikraman film is always a feel good film. A family entertainer with a lot of message, hurts no one. And, the director’s signature is very evident in this film.
The film revolves around Annamalai (Vijayakanth) who was extremely well off once upon a time, but now lives in a small dwelling in the village. Annamalai always believed in bringing up his children with all the comforts that he could afford, but also gave them the freedom to make their own decisions.
Raja (Vijayakanth) is Annamalai’s son who loves his father and respects him very much for the values, he has been taught right from childhood. One day Annamalai meets his friend Vishwanathan ( Nizhalgal Ravi) who decides that, since he is going off on a business trip to the US for a long time, his daughter should stay in Annamalai’s house, so that she would be safe and is well taken care off!
Vishwanathan’s daughter Chandra (Meera Jasmine), enters Annamalai’s household and mingles freely with everyone in the family, but she finds Raja’s aloof nature a bit strange. The scenes which involve Chandra who always trips on Mukkaiah (Ramesh Khanna), Annamalai’s faithful servant are very natural. She soon decides to investigate a bit further, about Raja and then gets to know that Raja, has lost interest in the institution of marriage because of a bad experience he faced with Radha (Meena), who promised to marry him only for his money.
Chandra, then realizes that, it was the same Radha, with whom she worked at a local radio station and also shared a very close relationship with her. She decides to help the family, in every way including Raja, in trying to get their lost property back from Anand Varma (Ariraj R Hariraj) and Marthandam (Shanmuga Rajan), who are Annamalai’s sworn opponents in the village.
How, Raja successfully thwarts Marthandam’s plan to demolish his greenhouse garden, and also becomes successful in his business that fetches him accolades forms the remaining part of the story.
A story that is a clean entertainer, without any violence is what has been dished out. The songs have been picturised well, at several locations including Thailand and Australia. But with elections coming up, Vijayakanth has tried not to be preachy and talks a lot of strength of the youth in this country. It is believed that the censor board had congratulated the team for making a film that would appeal to the family audience.
Vijayakanth is playing father and son for the second time, and Ambika plays the wife of father Vijayakanth. The Vikraman-Vijayakanth combination came together for Vannathaipola which was also a family drama, and Captain has tried his best not to load this movie with any political overtones.
Other members of the cast include Nasser, Thalaivasal Vijay and Sampath who have done their bit for the film. The director has made sure that the story does not lag in narration and moves without dragging at any point in time.
Verdict: A good entertainer which emphasizes on family and values.
Genre: Family Drama
