Arumugam is a remake of yesteryear film Annamalai with Super Star Rajinikanth and Khushbu in lead roles. Director Suresh Krishna has cleverly roped Bharath and Ramya Krishnan for the lead roles.
THE CHARACTERS
The movie revolves around poor Idly vendor Arumugam (Bharath) residing with his father (Illavarasu) and sister (Saranya Mohan). He has a very close friend Karthik (Satya) who survives with his sister cum business magnate Malini Devi (Ramya Krishnan). Yamini (Priyamani) is in love with Arumugam from childhood, but reveals it after years.
THE PLOT
Arumugam and Karthik are best friends from childhood. Malini Devi hates their friendship due to status issues, hence she plays a trick with Arumugam, destroys the graveyard of Arumugam's mother (Seetha) and harasses his sister. Arumugam challenges the business icon and starts his countdown to extract his revenge from her.
Does he succeed in his challenge? How? All answers lie in the remaining part of the film, so watch the film in theatres.
THE TECHNIQUE
Performances
Bharath has once proved himself an action hero. His looks, romance and action are perfect. Neelambari, sorry Ramya Krishnan, is very apt for Villi's role. She has maintained the same tempo as in Padayappa. Priyamani has done a good job. Saranya Mohan is very simple and quiet.
Music: Deva
The music of the film is very entertaining. Deva's peppy numbers are all enjoyable.
Direction: Suresh Krishna
Everything is fine except the poor screenplay, which had taken the film a step back. The director has given a mixture of Padayappa and Annamalai. The film has not fulfilled all expectations. Priyamani appears suddenly for a song and then disappears. Suresh has tried to give something different - but failed
VERDICT
The film can be watched once.
