Director Arpudhan has used different permutations and combinations centered on love and friendship. This movie is basically targeted at the young audience and portrays life in College campus. Everyone will certainly relate at least one scene from the flick with their personal experience.
This movie has predictable, clichéd situations and stereotyped characters. Halfway through, the movie has a twist which is also an expected one. But in spite of these glitches, it is worth seeing. Why?
Shaam looks fresh and energetic, and has performed well again, after Ullam Ketkum. Malluwood girl Nithyadas is making her debut in Kollywood. Samiksha, as a typical lover, is running around bushes and trees. Malluwood actor Jaya Suriya plays a vital role in this movie. Many scenes in the movie have been so realistically treated, that the viewers will feel a bond of empathy, and relate the travails of the characters with their own experiences.
The story is
Siva (Shaam) and Sathya (Nithyadas) are collegemates. She is a good friend of Siva. She is always with him, both in his happy and sad moments. When he is in a tight corner, Sathya with the help of her father, helps Siva to come out it unscathed. Their friendship continues even after their college days. The parents of Siva and Sathya mistake their friendship as an affair. The two refuse and make it clear that they are platonic friends with oneness in their thoughts, but no plutonic thoughts!
In the course of time, Siva marries Sruthy (Samiksha) and Sathya marries Karthik (Jaya Surya). The problems and resultant consequences due to their affection for each other, forms the screenplay of the story.
Shaam and Nithyadas give an impressive performance. While Shaam is his usual easygoing self, Nithyadas is adorable and is a complete glamour babe. Samiksha has given a eommendable performance for her character.
The director could have tried to get the best from the stars. Karthik Raja’s music is excellent and melds well with the atmosphere in the movie.
Overall, Manathodu Mazhaikalam is worth seeing as it has a certain truth and universality to it.
