Review

Navdeep, of Arinthum Ariyamalum fame, is back with the pulsating romantic flick, which centres around the school campus and the growing pangs of adolescents.

Illavattam, starring Navdeep and Sheela in the lead roles, is packed with romance and action in the right mix and is sure to regale those who like their films to throb with intensity and entertainment.

Seenu (Navdeep) and Lakshmi (Sheela) are classmates. Misunderstandings between them lead to their love for each other. Lakshmi is the daughter of a rich landlord (Vijaya Kumar) and Seenu belongs to a middle class family. Sethupathy (Bablu), the uncle of Lakshmi, is a money-minded person.

He murders the landlord to take over his properties and make plans to marry Lakshmi. As a typical villain, he tries to separate the lovers, and fails. District Collector Rajarajeshwari (Suhashini) helps the lovers. How Seenu and Lakshmi get united after all the strong opposition from Sethupathy and his horrid henchmen, forms the screenplay.

This may be an off-repeated theme in Tamil filmdom, but has been made interesting by a pacy narration by director Rajaraja. The scenes of this movie reminds one about the old movies with related themes. Mani Sharma has come out with peppy tunes.

Navdeep has made use of this opportunity to exhibit his talents. Sheela fits her character to a T. Vijaya Kumar and Bablu have done a commendable job.

Producer Moorthy's Illavattam is a youthful entertainer.
