Ram Senthil’s Cocktail Dream Productions, Muruga, is the Tamil cinemas panacea for all ills, that is love, love and more of it. So Muruga too is a love story, where the protagonist Murugan falls in love with his schoolmate Amudha. Alas for Murugan his love is one sided and to make matters worse the girl he loves is from a very rich family.
Murugan’s love is detected by the girl’s family and tyranny starts in the form of Selvam, played by Riaz Khan, the uncle or morai mapillai of the heroine Amudha. He throws out Murugan and his mother from the village asking them never to step in again.
Murugan settles down in Chennai and finds work in a courier company. In Chennai he happens to meet Amudha again in a Medical College. Forgetting the past unpleasantness, the hero and heroine become good friends. In time the friendship between the two blossoms into love. Murugan’s care and consideration captivates Amudha.
When Amudha completes Medicine and returns to the village, wedding preparations are on to get her married to Selvam. So, did the star crossed lovers unite? Does the father lend a ear to his daughter’s objections? Well see the film to know the climax.
Ashok has acted as Murugan and Shruti Sharma as Amudha. Vadivelu gets a few laughs out of the audience.
Debutante Director R.T.Nesan has taken care of the story, screenplay and dialogues too. He has managed to bring out the different nuances in calf love and mature emotion. Padmesh’s camera is easy on the eyes and Karthik Raja’s songs make you want to sing along.
It is an effort for the viewer to remember that Ashok is a newcomer. His dancing and stunts make you think that he is an old hand at this. Shruti Sharma looks like the girl next door and is adequate. Samiksha is a part of the cast.
Though a love story, Muruga is different
