A big huge congratulation goes to Charan for the immense strength and support he has bestowed on Venkat Prabhu. Chennai 600028, which circles around the pack of youngsters residing in Mandaveli, Chennai.
The central characters are sketched at an age where they react with strong emotional outbursts to every change they undergo. The backbone of the film is knotted around the tennis ball cricket matches that take place between the two most notorious gangs of the area, R.A. Puram Sharks and Royapuram Rockers.
The Sharks are the ones who pathetically face defeat. The most unfortunate point is these underdogs are the heroes of the movie. The story spins on to how the Sharks struggle for victory over the Rockers. Refreshing screenplay and realistic performances are the highlights of the movie.
Popular Radio Mirchi RJ Shiva debuts in the film and proves that he has strong stuff within him. He plays Karthik, the captain of the Sharks and also the dreamer of the team. Palani is another member of the Sharks and an exceptionally fast bowler.
He has a sister named Selvi (Vijayalakshmi, daughter of director Agathiyan) whom Karthik is trying to woo. Aravind (Aravind Akash) is the happy-go-lucky guy cum bearer in a coffee shop; all his attempts to impress a rich and sexy girl (Christine Zedak) always go in vain. Venkat Prabhu has launched his brother Premji to fill the humour factor by portraying him as the plump and sloppy fielder of the team.
One more lookalike of Vijay discovered in the movie is Reghu (Deva's last son), who is the Cherry on the Rockers but due to reasons which are not initially revealed, ends up with the Sharks. How could the cricket team be complete without the coach? Sharks don't have any international cricketing coach; just the local barber Ilavarasan turns coach for them.
With the whole battalion of youngsters charging up for the movie, the director hasn't changed the rule for music and has roped in Yuvan Shankar Raja and has made a wise choice. Though the fact is that the songs slow down the tempo of the movie, still the tracks Ennamo. and Yaaro. can be chosen as the best picks of the basket. Sathi Saravanan's has complemented the feel and touch painted by the director.
The film is a sure shot hit among the Chennai youth, even if it might not appeal to the masses outside Chennai. A totally new dimension, not to films, but to the way they are made!
