Aarya, a thorough entertainer brings the strong message of countering violence without actually reacting violently to it.

Deepika (Bhavana), a first-year student in a medical college is a total despot, encouraged by her brother Kasi (Prakash Raj), behaving like a big boss, threatening every other student, professor and even the Dean, making them do her bidding and dance to her tunes. Who is Kasi? He is the local big shot, has lots of power, is involved in all types of illegal and legal activities and has money to burn. He is determined to fulfill all his dear sister's wishes, no matter how roughly he has to behave to accomplish her wishes. In fact, she got admission in Medical College by Kasi killing an innocent merit student with the same name murdered, then getting Deepika to join the Medical College in the said vacancy. Arya (Madhavan) joins the college as a Final year student, transferred from Coimbatore. He lives with his sister and mother and is serious about his studies. Predictably, he ignores Deepika, which gets her goat.

Deepika gets furious on finding Arya's bike parked in the lot reserved for cars. As irresistible Arya ignores her angry shrieks and refuses to salute her, she goes ballistic, destroys his bike, kidnaps his sister and is out for his blood. Predictably, since Arya stays cool and pays her back in a fitting manner, she falls for him, his valour, his manliness...

Arya evades Deepika and does not want to be involved with the sister of a notorious goon, but Deepika wants him at any cost. So big brother Kasi decided to 'get' Arya for Deepika. He crates situations for Arya to also indulge in illegal activities, but Arya successfully evades his efforts, until.

What is the climax of this hilarious roller-coaster? See the movie to find out.

Madhavan is simply superb. As a suave student of Medical college, he even holds his stethoscope and apron with panache! One tends to forget this is Madhavan, we only see the student Arya, who demonstrates that his wit and repartee are sharper than a scalpel! His dance steps in the dream sequence 'Jilendra Theeye' are great. His onscreen chemistry and exchange of insults with Bhavana are priceless. Bhavana is an able foil to his charm and wit. As the charming youngster who earned a Filmfare Award for her first Tamil film (Chithiram Pesuthadi) directed by Mysskin, what else did you expect? There are shades of gray in her role, almost till the end. Vadivel is his usual self. His encounters with Bhavana and confrontation scenes with Prakash Raj bring the house down. Prakash, as usual, gives one of his 'bestest' comic-villain performances. Shooting for the movie was in Vizag, Hyderabad and Chennai. Mani Sharma's music is another plus point;don't miss the well-picturised opening catchy title song, with Tejasri added to enrich the mixture!

Yes, Aarya is one great film to enjoy and get entertained. Even as you are reading this, the world premiere of the film has been held at Singapore and drawn rave reviews and critics' bouquets. So see Aarya, enjoy the experience, and if you missed some of the scalpel-sharp humour and repartee, see it again (like repeating a class)!
