The title Tho(l)laipaesi suggests that the cell phone is a 'thollai'-trouble. That is exactly what our hero lands into, courtesy, his mobile phone.
Vedhachalam (Vikramadithya) is a playboy who enjoys the company of girls. He is forced by his father (Nizhalgal Ravi) to marry Anitha (Priyanka). Even after his marriage, he continues with his affairs. He gets involved with Reema (Divya). With a cell phone in his hand, this Casanova enjoys life with his wife as well as girl friend. However, all this fun and joy does not last for long. His wife discovers his deception through his cell phone and deserts him, thus giving him his just deserts.
In the meantime, Aarthi (Aarthi), who is Vedhachalam's friend, falls in love with him. The two get along very well and Aarthi insists on marrying him. The rest of the plot revolves around Vedhachalam's choices. Does he unite with his wife? Does he desert his 'dessert' (girl friend)? Does he accept Aarthi's love?
Vikramadithya of Whistle fame has done a good job. He emotes well and has acted sincerely and naturally. Priyanka too has essayed her role well. The other two girls Aarthi and Divya are just about adequate.
Nizhalgal Ravi, as the hero's father, handles his role very well. Karunas and Madanbob provide comic relief.
Pannheerchelvem has handled the story, screenplay and direction. The director has used an interesting concept, but has not been able to exploit it fully. Cinematographer Shankar has captured some good images on celluloid. But there is not much support from the story for the exciting visuals. Music by Santhakumar is good.
All in all, with more of entertainment, Tho(l)laipaesi could have been less of a 'thollai'.
