Since his advent into to politics, Nam Nadu is Sarathkumar's first movie and it is by no means a coincidence that this one is loaded with political messages through-and-through.
Based on the Malayalam movies Lion, Nam Nadu is the story of a young man [Sarathkumar], born into an affluent family steeped in politics. They are the typical selfish and power-loving politicians who don't pay attention to social welfare and justice unless it holds a tangible personal incentive for them. As expected, Sarath disapproves of their political philosophy and separates from them to follow his own high principles.
In the elections, he contests independently, gains the people's favour and wins the election. Then comes a time when the government has no choice but to seek Sarath's support. In return, his demand to be in the Internal Affairs Ministry is accepted. The rest of the story revolves around how he uses this new powerful position to achieve true social welfare.
The political story is closely intertwined with the regular dose of sentiments - maternal love, sister's love affair and his own romance with a school teacher. And to thrill Sarath fans, there are a few amazing stunts too. Lead lady Karthika's debut performance is good, but given that the movie has more to do with him than her, we'll have to wait for her next movie to judge her real acting skills. Other impressive performances come from Vijaykumar, Nasser, Manivannan, Charanraj and Ramesh Kannan.
The background score and the songs could have been better. Composed by Srikanth Deva, naturally there is a hint of Deva's notes in the tunes. The camera work and editing complement the direction. Suresh must be appreciated for having successfully modified the original story to suit the Tamil audience.
Nam Nadu is a political statement made by the new politician Sarathkumar and his fans [followers] will love it.
