If there is one director who has been delivering hit after hit, it must be K.S. Ravikumar. Starting from Puriyatha Puthir to Dasavatharam, he has evolved as a director working on scripts that are commonly known as commercial entertainers. With Aadhavan, K.S. Ravikumar tries to make sure he delivers the entertainment expected this festive season on the silver screen.
Who's In It?
Suriya, after tasting the success of the recent blockbuster hit Ayan, joins hands with K.S. Ravikumar for the first time with Aadhavan. Nayantara, who was earlier seen with Suriya in Ghajini, plays his love interest. Murali, Vadivelu, Sayaji Shinde, Ramesh Khanna and Manobala are also in the cast. Veteran actress Saroja Devi makes a comeback after many years. Anand Babu, son of Nagesh, is one of the villains. Harris Jayaraj composes the music. Story is by Ramesh Khanna. Aadhavan, directed by K.S. Ravikumar, is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin for Red Giant Movies.
What's It About?
Aadhavan has a wafer-thin plot. The story is about how a prodigal son (Suriya) returns home after a few years to save his father (Murali) from getting murdered by criminals.
The Performances
Aadhavan relies greatly on the performances of Suriya and Vadivelu. Suriya steals our hearts in the songs. Nayantara as always has nothing much to do other than fall in love with the hero and sing a few songs abroad. Vadivelu impresses throughout the movie with his comedy. Veteran actress Saroja Devi makes a comeback; that's it. Her role is limited. Ramesh Khanna is OK. Sayaji Shinde and Rahul Dev are forgettable as the villains. Murali as Suriya's strict father is good. Over all, Aadhavan boasts of a huge star cast who are not given much scope to perform due to the storyline.
For the Techie Lovers
Aadhavan is a musical treat from Harris Jayaraj. All the songs are already super hits. The best ones come during the second half. Cinematography in the songs is excellent. Stunts are above average in a few sequences, but the climax fight is a letdown. The effort put in by the visual effects team to showcase Suriya as the ten-year-old deserve appreciation. Since the story is weak, K.S. Ravikumar has scripted the screenplay depending entirely on the comedy and music.
Final Verdict
K.S. Ravikumar's Aadhavan is watchable as a commercial entertainer for time pass.
Cheers! Suriya, Vadivelu and Harris Jayaraj
