Director N.K. Vishwnath

Music Director Illayaraja
Banner Murali Cine Arts

Film industry suffers from remake fever. Another remake in the form of Jagan Mohini, the original blockbuster directed by Vitalachariya starring Jayamalini in lead roles, hit the screens during Deepavali. The remake is directed by Vishwanathan who has used modern day graphics and special effects to make the film more appealing.

THE CHARACTERS

The film is about the fight between the good and evil. Mohini (Namitha) is a pearl diver who fall in love with a a prince Jagathalapradhapan (Raja), who is engaged to Azhagu Nachiyar (Nila).

THE PLOT

Jagathalapradhapan, the only son of King Narasimha Raju sets on a mission to capture pirates in the sea. When he lands in Sangu Theevu in search of pirates he comes across Mohini, a girl from local fisherman community. They fall in love. Jagathalapradhan imprisons Alai Kallan, the head of the pirates and promises Mohini he would return with his parents to marry her. But fate has some other reason the princess parents refuses their love and even kill Mohini to get him married to Azhagu Nachiyar. The evil tantrik Kota Sreenivasa Rao (assigned to kill Mohini) plans to kill the prince to rule the whole world. But things go strange when Mohini's spirit come back. What happens next?? Why did Mohini's spirit returned? The answers lies in the rest of the film.

THE TECHNIQUE

Perfomances

The show stealer is Namitha. Apart from glamour she has proved herself as a good actor. Nila looks gorgeous in traditional wear and her acting is also good. Raja, who has the opportunity to romance two south beauties has done a very good job. Kota Srinivasa Rao's as the tantrik gets into the skin of the character.

Music: Illayaraja

The songs are average. They were not like his songs in 80's which ruled the music charts.

Direction: K.S. Viswanathan

Remaking a blockbuster movie is not a simple task. But Viswanathan has managed to do a decent job, but the graphics are not up to the mark. He could have experimented with the story too. The director had a very right choice in casting Namitha is really good.

VERDICT
The film can be watched once for Namitha.
