Nil Gavani Ennai Kadhali is a glamour-action thriller releasing in three languages - named Black Stallion in Malayalam and Ithoru Managaalu in Telugu. The movie stars Namitha in one of her most glamorous roles.
The Characters
Black Stallion (Kalabhavan Mani) is a corrupt cop in Tirupur who calls himself a criminal police. He happens to see Laura (Namitha) , a bar dancer in a reputed hotel. Black, as he is known to others, falls for Laura. Circumstances force Laura to move to Kochi where she meets and falls in love with Hussian (Bala), a fashion photographer.
The Plot
Black's father (Ashish Vidyarthi) was killed by a corrupt cop. This was the reason why Black became a criminal police and does anything for money. When a group of businessmen ask him to kidnap a bar dancer (Laura), he falls in love with her. Laura doesn't reciprocate his love but instead, hates him. This is because Black had killed her father a few years ago.
When Laura realises that Black would do anything for her, she pretends to love him and at an opportune time, tries to kill him. Circumstances force her to flee to Kochi with her handicapped sister. There she meets Hussain, a fashion photographer. They fall in love, but Black comes looking for her and what follows is the twist in the tale.
The Performances
Namitha, Mani and Bala have done justice to their roles, but still some punch dialogues could have been avoided to make it more realistic. Mani has tried to act as a action hero, but we wish to see the talented actor in more character roles. Namitha is once again the glamour queen.
Music by Abhishik is not up to the mark; even the background scores are too jazzy and loud.
Director Pramod has just tried to focus more on the glamour part than the script. As a result, the script seems to have lost out towards the end.
Cinematography and editing are well done
The Verdict
Just because you have Namitha's date does not mean glamour should be the main focus. The plot seems to have lost its continuity towards the end. Some songs and flashbacks could have been chopped to improve the pace in the second half. Nil Gavani Ennai Kadhali is all about a not-so-thrilling first half and a dragging second half.
