Karan, who impressed with his films Kokki and Karuppasamy Kuthagaitharar, is keen on doing commercial entertainers. His recent films have been portraying him as a mass hero who romances, flexes his muscles and tries his hand at comedy; one more in this list is Irandu Mugam.
Directed by Aravindaraj of Oomai Vizhigal, the movie fulfills Karan's desire to take the mass route. Giving him company are Sathyaraj and Suhani. This political pot-boiler unfolds at a quick pace sans logic.
The audio launch function of Irandu Mugam was a grand affair. Music has been composed by Bharadwaj, The first audio CD was presented by TFPC President Ramanarayanan and director K. Bhagyaraj to director Parthiban. Actor Karan took time to name several individuals who had contributed to the film and thanked them individually. He also said, "To be honest, it's not Irandhu Mugam. It's Irandayiram Mugam (not two faces but 2,000 faces) for that many people have helped us make this project!"
The Plot
Parthasarathy aka Sarathy (Karan) is a famous cook and a political science graduate. He aspires to become a MLA since his childhood. When the Chief Minister visits his village for a meeting, Sarathy's mimicry skills impresses him and the CM appoints him as the local leader of his party.
Thamizh Sakthi (Nasser), a leader of the same party, had plans to promote his younger brother as the local leader. And thus enmity arises between Sarathy and Thamizh Sakthi. Enter Pavithra (Suhani), daughter of the Opposition leader, who is madly in love with Sarathy since childhood.
After a series of events Thamizh Sakthi helps Sarathy to become a MLA. In turn, Sarathy has to support him in all his shady deals! Now enters the honest and sincere Sarveswaran IAS (Sathyaraj), MLA Sarathy's personal secretary. When Sarathy's shady deals affect his loved ones, he decides to change and work for the welfare of the people along with Sarveswaran IAS. Can Sarathy end the greed and corruption in politics? Watch out for Irandu Mugam, which has an interesting twist in the climax.
The Performances
As usual, Sathyaraj stands out with his brilliant performance, perfect comedy timings and hilarious one liners. Hero Karan is nowhere behind; he has given his best for the film. The rest of the cast includes Nasser, Suhani, Anuradha Krishnamurthy, Kumaravel, Livingston, Kanja Karuppu, Anu Haasan and M.S. Baskar.
Had Aravindaraj concentrated more on the script, Irandu Mugam would have quenched the thirst of parched throats. Bharadwaj's music fails to impress while Abdul Kalam's camera and Ruben J.'s dialogues need special mention.
